School Supply List for Fifth Grade at North Schuylkill Elementary

ü  four solid colored folders with two pockets

*RED for Reading/Language Arts

*BLUE for Math

*GREEN for Social Studies

*ORANGE for Science

 (You may want to purchase two of each colored folder as they often need to be replaced during the year.)

ü  4 wide ruled blue or black marble notebooks (not spiral bound)

ü  many many many number two pencils

ü  many many many pencil top erasers

ü  crayons (16 or 24)

ü  colored pencils

ü  highlighters

ü  glue stick

ü  soft pencil case

 
*Please do not purchase binders as they take up a lot of space in your child’s backpack and locker.  Also please do not purchase backpacks with wheels.  We have found that these can be tripping hazards when changing classes.

Incoming fourth grade students, practice your math facts over the summer.  The more proficient you are with your facts, the easier math will be for you.  Also take time to read over the summer!  Strong readers are not only successful in reading class, but they do well in all subject areas.

Math--Periods 1 and 2--Today in class we had a retirement party for Mrs. Liem.  Congratulations, Mrs. Liem, on your retirement!  Present and future math students, stay sharp with your math facts over the summer!  Practice using flashcards and the computers.  The more proficient you are with your math facts, the easier math will be for you!
Science--Periods 3 and 4--Today in class we made our own trail mix and kool aid--a mixture and a solution!
Homeroom Reminders--Tomorrow is the last day of school.  Dismissal will be at 11:45.  Report cards will be distributed tomorrow, and lunch will also be served.

Math--Period 1--There is no homework.  Today in class we practiced multiplying whole numbers and fractions.  Textbooks will be collected tomorrow.
Math--Period 2--There is no homework.  Today in class we practiced multiplying fractions by whole numbers and mixed numbers.  Textbooks will be collected tomorrow.
Science--Periods 3 and 4--There is no homework.  We wrapped up atom, element, and molecule concepts today.
Homeroom Reminders--Tomorrow is Day 3--Computers.  We will have our End of the Year/PSSA Reward mixer tomorrow afternoon.  A DJ is scheduled.  Students may also bring in a game for the afternoon.

Math--Period 1--Today we practiced adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.  We also practiced multiplying whole numbers.  There is no homework tonight.
Math--Period 2--Today we practiced adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.  We also started to work on multiplying fractions.  There is no homework tonight.
Science--Periods 3 and 4--Today we wrapped up our last Ag Lab on Water Analysis.  We also worked on concepts related to atoms, elements, and molecules.  There is no homework tonight.
Homeroom Reminders--Yearbooks were distrubuted today.   Tomorrow is Day 2--Music.

Friday--May 24, 2013
There is no homework today due to Carnival. Students will visit the Ag Lab for one period and carry out a water analysis investigation. Communication envelopes will be sent home. When we return to school on Tuesday, it will be Day 1--Phys. Ed.
Have a fun Memorial Day weekend! Take time to remember and thank the many veterans who made sacrifices for our freedoms!

Math--Periods 1 and 2--No homework.
Science--Periods 3 and 4--If you did not return your signed Investigation 4 test, bring it to school tomorrow.  Today students continued to work in the Ag Lab.  We investigated the ability of soils to hold different amounts of water.  You all did a very good job!  There is no written homework in Science today.
Homeroom Reminders--Tomorrow is Carnival Day!  Students may wear Phys. Ed. clothing and bring an extra change of clothes in case you need to change.  Thank you, PTO parents,  for organizing Carnival Day for us!  We appreciate all that you do!

Science--Period 3--Get your Investigation 4 Test signed.  Students were able to complete this assessment using their study guides.  Finish your Ag Lab reflection paper on yesterday's Banana DNA lab.
Science--Period 4--Get your two papers signed if you didn't already do so. 
**Both Science classes did a great job in the Ag Lab today as we investigated the Vitamin C content of various juices.  Way to go!
Homeroom Reminders--Tomorrow is Day 5--Library Book Exchange.  Don't forget that all library books need to be returned.  Several students received overdue/missing book(s) notices.

Science--Period 3--Finish your Ag Lab reflection paper on yestersday's lab on soybeans.
Science--Period 4--Get your Metals paper and Investigation 4 Test signed.  Finish your two Ag Lab reflection papers.  The first one is on yesterday's lab on soybeans, and the second one is on today's DNA extraction lab.
Homeroom Reminders--Several students received notices from the school library for overdue/missing library books.  Talk to your child to see if he/she received one.  Tomorrow is Day 4--Art.
