Week of May 29, 2012

It's our last week of school!  Congratulations on your fifth grade successes!
Math and Science--There is no homework this week. Textbooks have been collected.  Bring in your textbook if you have not handed it in yet.  My math students have grown a lot this year!  Continue to stay sharp with your facts by practicing over the summer.
Reminders--Tomorrow is Day 1--Phys. Ed.  We also have our Envirothon field trip in the morning, and our end of the year pizza party in the afternoon.  Bring a bagged lunch and plenty of water for our field trip.  You may also bring sunblock and insect repellent.  Library books must be returned by Wednesday.  Thursday is the last day of school with an 11:45 dismissal.  Lunch will be provided on the last day at 10:15.  Mini corn dogs will be served.  Report cards will be distributed on the last day as well.  
Parents, thank you for your support throughout the year.  Fifth graders, best wishes for a successful future!

Thursday
Math--Periods 1 and 2--Students received their graded timed multiplication and division fact tests and their graded final cumulative test back today.  They are in their Math folders for your review.  There is no written homework.
Science--Periods 3 and 4--No homework.  Project grade sheets are in your child's Science folder for your review.  Our Envirothon Club field trip will take place next Wednesday morning.  Plan to bring a bagged lunch with you.  We will meet to discuss our trip next Tuesday afternoon.
Homeroom Reminders--Tomorrow is Carnival Day.  Students are permitted to wear Phys. Ed. uniforms tomorrow.  They may also bring an extra change of clothes and shoes in case they get wet.  You may also want to have your child bring sun screen.  Also don't forget your bagged lunch unless you requested a bagged lunch from the cafeteria.  Our fifth grade End-of-the-Year party will be next Wednesday afternoon.  Friday will not be a rotation day.  When we return to school on Tuesday after Memorial Day, it will be Day 5--Library Book Exchange.  All library books must be returned next week.
Friday
No Math or Science homework.  Thank you PTO for organizing our Carnival Day!  We appreciate all that you do!

Homeroom Reminders--Tomorrow we are scheduled to go to the cemetery at 9:15 if the weather cooperates.   Students are permitted to wear their Phys. Ed. uniforms tomorrow.  If students ordered yearbooks, they received them today.

Math--Period 1--Complete Practice Test 9A.  Be sure to refer to the lesson number--which is below the item number--if you do not know how to do a problem.  We will take test form 9B tomorrow in class which will be very similar to this practice test.
Math--Period 2--Complete Practice Test 8A.  Be sure to refer to the lesson number--which is below the item number--if you do not know how to do a problem.  We will take test form 8B tomorrow in class which will be very similar to this practice test.  Also complete worksheets H and I fact sections only.
Science--Periods 3 and 4--See Mr. Wolfe during homeroom if you did not hand in your Science project yet.  If it is not handed in tomorrow, you will earn a 0 which will severely affect your Science average.
Homeroom Reminders--I have not received word yet on when we are going to the cemeteries.  Tomorrow is Day 3--Computers.

Math--Period 1--Get your test signed if you didn't already do so.  Correct Lesson 49.  Complete the following problems from Lesson 50--2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 26, and 29.
Math--Period 2--Get your test signed if you didn't already do so.  Correct Lesson 48--skip numbers 9 and 10.
Science--Periods 3 and 4--Students presented their Mixtures and Solutions projects in class today.  If you did not get to present your project today, you will show it tomorrow.  Parents, thank you for your help with this project!

Homeroom Reminders--We did not go to the cemeteries today due to the rainy weather.  If the weather cooperates, we will be going later on this week.  We have not been told the day or time yet.  Our students were very respectful and attentive during today's Memorial Day program!  Tomorrow is Day 2--Music.

Math--Periods 1 and 2--We did not have these classes today due to the Spring Music Program at the high school.  Congratulations are extended to our band and chorus members on a job well done!  Way to go!
Science--Periods 3 and 4--Your project is due on Monday.  Be sure to follow the directions in your project packet which is in your Science folder.
Homeroom Reminders--Communication envelopes were sent home today.  Return them on Monday.  We will be traveling to local cemeteries on Monday (weather permitting) to replace the flags on the graves of veterans.  Monday will also be Day 1--Phys. Ed.

Math--Period 2--Correct and finish fraction worksheet number 9.  Finish Lesson 48.  Skip problems 9 and 10.
Science--Periods 3 and 4--Work on your final project which is due on Monday.  Be sure to follow the directions in the project packet which is in your orange science folder.
Homeroom Reminders--Tomorrow there will be chorus practice all day at the high school.  Chorus members may wear phys. ed. clothes and bring a bottle of water.  Chorus members, also bring a bagged lunch tomorrow unless you have made arrangements at school to receive one from the cafeteria.  Students who will be purchasing a school lunch on Carnival Day must return the order paper tomorrow.  Envirothon Club members, don't forget to bring back your May 30 field trip permission slip ASAP.
Thursday
There is no homework due to all day chorus practice.  Science projects are due on Monday.  The chorus concert will be at the high school auditorium at 7:00.

Math--Period 2--Continue working on fraction worksheet number 9.  Correct 1 to 10 at the top.  Complete 1 to 10 on the bottom.  Also correct Lesson 48, 1 to 20.
Science--Periods 3 and 4--Your final project is due on Monday, May 21.  Be sure to follow the directions found in the packet in your folder.  Use the grade sheet as a check list to be sure you included all of the necessary parts.  Also don't forget to include at least two sources that you used to help you with your project.

Math--Period 2--Correct and finish Lesson 47.  For tomorrow's test review lessons 27, 31, and 32 from your book.  Review the lessons in the book as well as the sample problems.  
Science--Period 3--Read pp. 32 to 36.  Complete the sticky note activity on your scientist.  Work on your project.  Your final plan is due on Monday.
Science--Period 4--Complete your Metals worksheet.  Work on your project.  Your final plan is due on Monday.
