Social Studies--Study flashcards.
In Science in Period 1 today students carried out an experiment on concentrations. Tomorrow we will be relating concentrations to ratios. In Periods 2, 3, and 4 students finished the extension labs related to concentrations. We will finish going over the labs tomorrow, and students will receive the investigation 3 study guide. A few students finished presenting their explorer projects today! Many students did a great job!

Science--All classes--no homework.
Social Studies--All classes--Your explorer project is due tomorrow. Remember to follow the minimum content requirements--at least 4 paragraphs with 5 sentences per paragraph. You also need at least two pictures--one of your explorer and a map showing where he traveled. Parents, thank you for your support with this project! Several students have handed their projects in early, and they did a great job!
Last week we held parent/teacher conferences on Tuesday and Thursday evening. If you did not have a conference, but you would like me to contact you please give me a call here at school at extension 3219. In Science and Social Studies I am generally pleased with fifth grade's progress. Most of our students show enthusiasm for learning and are putting forth a good effort!

Science--Get papers signed.
Social Studies--All Periods--Finish the journal question on the presidential election--What will you tell your children when you are an adult about this presidential election? Include at least 5 facts you learned as you completed the activities. Your facts can be related to the candidates, the issues, and the outcome of the election.
Reminder--Your explorer project is due on Tuesday. Be sure to follow the directions on the grade sheet you received when you started the project. Content minimum--4 paragraphs with 5 sentences in each.
P.T.O. Fundraisers have arrived! You may pick them up at school.

Social Studies--Today we watched Mr. McCain's concession speech and Mr. Obama's victory speech as we wrapped up our activities related to the presidential election. Mr. Obama was the winner of our class election as well. Fifth grade showed great enthusiasm as they participated in election related activities over the past three classes!
Periods 1, 2, 3, and 4--Finish your electoral vote maps. You may use the links at MSNBC or CNN to help you.
Periods 2, 3, and 4--Finish your flashcards for the people and places on page 178 of your textbook.

Social Studies--We continued to learn about concepts related to the presidential election today. This included an overview of the candidates' positions on the issues, an introduction to electoral votes and the number needed in order for a candidate to win, and a class mock election. Be sure to watch election returns tonight on the news!
Period 1--No written homework
Periods 2, 3, and 4--Continue making your flashcards. Page 174--Do Northwest Passage, profit, Henry Hudson, and Hudson River. Page 178--Do vocabulary words only.

Social Studies--We are preparing for tomorrow's presidential election as we learn about the candidates. Tomorrow we will be introduced to the Electoral College and the role it plays in determining our next president. Just a reminder--All classes have the Explorer project due next Tuesday.
